What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is an FDA approved injectible solution intended to smooth out deep facial creases and wrinkles, creating a more delicate, rested, and youthful appearance. Common areas of treatment in Chicago include the vertical lines between the eyebrows, the crowsfeet (angled wrinkles that form at the outer corners of the eyes), and the horizontal forehead wrinkles. BOTOX® can also be used in Illinois, after traditional methods of treatment have been attempted, to correct hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating).
Who is this for?
Anyone who has developed deep facial wrinkles that make them appear constantly tired or older than their true age. Many patients are treating wrinkles resulting from the natural effects of aging, while plenty of younger people pursue BOTOX® as well. Patients in their mid late twenties to thirties may notice preventional benefits of BOTOX® treatments. People who experience excessive sweating, or excessive sweating of the hands (palmar hyperhydrosis) may also be a candidate for BOTOX®.
About the BOTOX® procedure
We are excited to say that our patients report raving success with their BOTOX treatments in Chicago, claiming our injectibles specialist to be a BOTOX® "artist." The procedure takes only about 15 minutes to perform. The natural BOTOX® solution is injected, using a very fine, minimally invasive needle, into the area of treatment. The solution blocks the impulses from the nerve to the area's facial muscles, and relaxes them. This eases the strain on the skin, and causes the wrinkles to iron out, leaving the patient with a smooth, healthier-looking surface.
What is involved in the BOTOX® recovery time?
Some patients report a mild headache immediately following the procedure, as well as some minor bruising, but these are temporary. Standard pain medication will control any discomfort. Otherwise, patients are able to continue on with their daily routine, even returning to work. This is up to patient preference and comfort level.
What kind of results should be expected?
The smoothing effects of BOTOX® are actually not immediately apparent, but take about 3-8 days to develop. They can then last for up to 3-6 months, eventually fading away gradually. When wrinkles begin to show again, they usually are not as deep as before treatment. In fact, studies show that the more BOTOX® treatments a patient has, the less frequent they need to be.
